MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – A 7-year-old boy was shot in the leg in an apparent home invasion in northwest Montgomery County Thursday morning, detectives said.
It happened at a home in the 10400 block of Cude Cemetery, just north of FM 830.
Investigators said around 3:30 a.m., the family was awakened by their burglar alarm.
The parents got up to check the house and said they found the garage door open and the door leading from the garage into the home ajar.
They secured the door, set the alarm and went back to bed.
Investigators said their 13-year-old child went to sleep on a couch, and the 7-year-old victim, who was scared, got in bed with his parents.
About an hour and a half later, investigators said the family was awakened again – this time by a loud bang.
The room was dark, but the parents said they heard the 7-year-old crying out for help.
When they turned the lights on, they saw blood everywhere.
Investigators said the boy was shot with a shotgun in the calf, and the front door of the residence had been kicked in.
The 13-year-old said he thought he saw someone dressed in black run out of the house.
The victim was taken to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands and later airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital in the Med Center.
Investigators said the boy was in surgery Thursday, but he was expected to recover.
As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests had been made, but the investigation was ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. John Schmitt at 936-760-5876 or Montgomery County Crime Stoppers.
